Are you looking for a new hobby?  Wind down after a hectic working week, learning to sew , it is relaxing and  very rewarding! 

This is our best selling adult course.

The absolute beginner class is a path onto all sorts of different exciting sewing/dressmaking or crafting projects, we love to show you the basics, take home  your finished projects you are sure to be very proud of.

Skill Level - No Sewing machine, fabric or pattern cutting experience needed.
Setting up your  sewing machine, learn all the basic stitches, reverse, using a pattern make an envelope cushion (cushion pad is included in class) Make a reversible Tote bag, introduction to dressmaking, make PJ shorts. 

All patterns are provided in class and you can take them away to make lots more at home, handmade gifts for your family and friends.

You can borrow a sewing machine(if you do not own one yet) at no extra costs.

Sewing machines are available to borrow free of charge.
Skill level - This course is for beginners who have a few sewing projects behind them, you can thread and use a sewing machine with confidence or you will have completed our level 1 beginner sewing course.
All patterns are included in each class, you can take them home to keep to complete more homemade wonderful gifts for your friends and family, spread your sewing love around!

You will learn a huge amount during this course, you will be making a Flanged Cushion with a zip, a bespoke Mini Tote handbag with a zip closure, square flat bottom, pockets, a zipped Washbag with pocket, to finish off the course you will have a masterclass on buttonholes.

An excellent progression  from level 1 beginner sewing
You must be able to thread and use your machine with confidence, pin and cut fabric.

NO Dressmaking experience required.
Stevie has a modern, boxy fit, with round neckline and kimono sleeves, closing at the back with pretty ties or button loop. This dress can be shortened or lengthened to suit, above-the-knee, on-the-knee, below-the-knee, with optional turn-up cuffs and patch pocket. Throw it on with a statement necklace and you're good to go!
At the end of your course you will have your Lovely bespoke Tunic dress to show off  handmade by you!
Depending on the class pace the last week may run past 2pm at no extra cost.

Introducing the new jumpsuit - laid back, with a comfortable fit through the waist, hips, and legs. Classic features like a v-shaped back and a pointed chest pocket. The straps are secured using buttons and a buttonhole!
A loose fitting design that works with different body types, shaped to go in at the waist, but still loads of room.You will learn - Pattern alterations, pattern fit, made to measure sizing, pattern grading, buttonholes, pockets, straps, hems amd more.

Skill Level - You will have completed our Level 1 beginner dressmaking course or you will have a few simple dressmaking projects behind you.

We all know how fun it is to sew up your own handmade gifts, soft furnishings and garments, but getting a lovely professional finish can be tricky to achieve when you first start out.

One common method you can come across to finish inside seams, decorative edges, necklines, hems and armholes is to use bias strips or bias binding (strips of fabric cut on the bias and joined together)

You will Learn how to:

Zips - Need to know how to sew a zip properly?  If you’re scared-they can be tricky!  Sewing in a zip strikes fear into the hearts of many a sewist!  They don’t have to be hard once you know how.
This class will walk you through all the basics of adding in a standard zip, concealed zip and a pocket zip into seams.
Buttonholes - Buttonholes are a crucial part of many sewing projects, but can also be a scary prospect. Adding buttonholes is often one of the final steps in a project, making it even more nerve wracking. Get them wrong and it could spoil all of your hard work - gulp! In this class we share top tips and techniques to keep you cool as a cucumber when completing this vital step.

Skill Level - You will be able to use your sewing machine with confidence.

Are you a little scared of your over locker?  Let's learn together all the basics, to gain your overlocking confidence - You can do this!

An overlocker not only provides your sewing projects/garments with a professional finished look, there is much more you will learn in our class, you will learn how too correctly:

Thread the machine, Change over 4 cottons, the best threads and which colours to use, all 4 tention controls and their individual stitches and uses, how to readjust each tension control, problem solving, tackle bulky seams, how to start and finish off sewing in a circle, sewing an inner and outer corner, starting off and reversing, gathering stitch, rolled hem, lettuce hem, Flatlock stitch and hemming, overlocked neat hem, pintucking(time permitting).

Let's gain more experience together whilst using all the above techniques, making a versatile Jumper, we will be finishing off the afternoon class constructing and sewing together the jumper with your overlocker.
You will take home a finished overlocked gorgeous jumper.
(The jumper pattern details required will be sent to you prior to the class for you to cut out at home, you will be advised on fabric amount needed, the correct size to cut, along with any other advice required).

Skill level - You will have a few simple dressmaking projects behind.

You will need to bring your own over locker machine, your machine; must be in good working order.  You will need to bring all your cut out pieces of fabric with you.

Love the look of Roman blinds, but never thought you could sew them yourself?

Now you can learn to make your own and dress your windows with style.
With Tamsin at Cambridge Sewing you’ll not only complete your own blind but you’ll have the skills you need to make more Roman blinds in future.

Some sewing classes only teach you to make a sample, but with us you’ll make a complete Roman blind for a small window in your home, giving you a much better understanding on how they are created and put together.
(window size must be no wider than 130cm) if you do not have a small window at home, you can make a blind for a family member or friend, or you can make a sample blind.

Classes are limited to 4 students.

You’ll leave with one finished blind, in your own choice of fabric

You will leave with instructions so you can ‘go solo’ at home.

Learn how to make professional roman blinds. You will learn how to measure the window correctly, square off the fabric, fully line the blinds, attach the necessary parts to make the blind functional and how to fit it to the window.

Skill level: You will expected to be able to use a sewing machine, sew and cut confidently (ideally be at same level as someone who has completed the level 1 beginner sewing course).






Curtain Day

Skill level - You will need to be confident with your sewing machine.

Learn how to make a fully lined curtains for a small window in your home (width of window no wider than 130cm) if you do not have a small window you will make a sample pair.

You will learn how to measure the window correctly, square off the fabric, add the lining  and attach the header tape.

You will cut out a pair of small lined curtains in this class, learn all the skills to make a pair of curtains, you will take home one made lined curtain, one cut out curtain to duplicate at home, you will have instuctions to take away with you, you will gain the skills and knowledge to be confident to make another pair of curtains.

Level 1 beginner free motion embroidery

The joys of free motion embroidery,  machine stitching with your feed dogs down and an embroidery/darning foot on means exactly that FREE to be as creative as you dare.



You can use you normal domestic sewing machine, no special fancy machines needed.

Skill level - You must be able to thread and use a sewing machine,  NO free motion embroidery experience needed, no artistic background needed.
Experimenting is exciting, drawing with stitch takes practice and takes a little courage for first timers. Start with a blank piece of fabric and doodle; continuous lines, swirls, circles, curves, zig zags, this will loosen you up, then move onto a picture creation.

Skill Level - You will have completed our level 1 beginner free motion embroidery class or you will have some free motion embroidery experience behind you.

Gorgeous personalised baskets to brighten up any room, great storage for your Sewing room, bedroom, bathroom etc..

We will be making a free motion embroidered/quilted basket tidy, approx. 10/12" in height and 31.5" circumference!  It will be padded with fleece and quilted with straight stitches or if you're feeling fancy you can choose a decorative stitch!
Several different picture designs to choose from or you can bring/draw your own.



Advanced dressmaking course-Fitted jacket

Level 4 dressmaking - The fitted lined jacket

6 week course - 4 hours per class
£200.00 per person, a £80.00 deposit is required to secure your place.

Influenced by the genius of Christian Dior, this jacket features a notched collar and longline, hip-length hem, with slanted pockets inserted into the front panels. The back of the jacket gently flares with a classic vent. The longer length means it’ll keep you that little bit warmer.

A slim silhouette and waisted fit which offers that quintessential 1940’s shape we love. The long two-piece set-in sleeve is gently tailored at the sleevehead for definition, and the jacket is finished with delicate handstitching for an exquisite finish. The jacket has shaped  princess seams and close at the front with three buttons.

You will learn - Pattern alterations, pattern fit, made to measure sizing, we will be structuring a collar, princess seams, set in sleeves, lining, buttonholes, bespoke sewing, hand sewing to finish.  We will be adding - Tailoring interfacing, ice wool and shoulder pads.

Skill level – Advanced, You will need experience in dressmaking and you are looking to improve and learn new skills.



The Trow on and go coat course

The ‘Throw on and go coat’ Level 3, dressmaking course

The Cocoon Coat is an on-trend, easy-to-wear coat, perfect for keeping cosy throughout Autumn and Winter. It features a shaped collar stand, drop shoulder sleeve and a full lining. Optional welt pockets can be added for those who want to keep their hands cosy and test their skills. There are no fastenings but the coat wraps closed at the front. The gently oversized look and comfy fit mean you’ll be reaching for it all season.
Skill level – Improver dressmaker – You will have a few dressmaking projects behind you, including pattern cutting and fabric cutting.

The Coat Pattern and instructions are included in the 4 week course fee and will be provided by Tamsin in week one.
